Speculation Anticipation

We want to ponder Obama's historic win. Really, we do. But we just can't. There's too much speculating to do about unresolved SEN races:

-- GA SEN looks like it's going to a 12/2 runoff, but does Martin have any shot against Chambliss? After all, low turnout normally benefits the GOPer. Plus, it's unclear if the first-time candidate can endure the rigors of the nat'l spotlight. Will Pres.-elect Obama be willing to dole out his political capital here to help energize the black vote - again?

-- Special elections are a real possibility in AK (Stevens) and MA (Kerry) where legislatures recently stripped govs of their ability to appoint successors. Even so, MA's Patrick says he could change that. Kerry is one of the few people Obama "owes" his success to. Where would he be w/out that '04 DNC speech?

-- Blago says he (probably) won't appoint himself in IL, but how important will '10 be in his decision-making? Can Jesse Jr. or Schakowsky compete statewide? Meanwhile, Duckworth is a Durbin fave, but has little legislative experience.

-- While we're sorry to see this election come to a close, we've got plenty to keep us busy for the next two years, and beyond.

Quote of the Day

"Former ballet dancer. Did you know that?"

— Dick Morris, on Rahm Emanuel, "O'Reilly Factor," FNC, 11/5.
